Second annual · September 15 and 29, 2012

The year it went on television.

The bishop celebrated it, WWLP carried it the next morning, and the dinner dance moved to its own date two weeks later.

In the second year the Mass and the party came apart into two evenings, and the Mass got a much bigger room than the cathedral. Bishop Timothy Anthony McDonnell celebrated it on September 15 at St. Michael’s, and the next morning it went out at ten o’clock on Chalice of Salvation, the diocesan Mass that WWLP 22 News has carried across Western Massachusetts for decades. Anybody in the four counties who could not get to State Street could still be at that Mass.

Two weeks later, on September 29, the second annual Celebration of Hope dinner dance filled the Elks Lodge Pavilion on Tiffany Street. Catered pasta, a DJ, vendors and prizes, a cash bar, and the same twenty-dollar ticket.

The beneficiaries that year were Cancer House of Hope, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Rays of Hope at Baystate Medical Center, and the Sisters of Providence Mercy Care Center. Down the left margin of the flyer, in three separate lines: Live. Rejoice. Hope.
